Good news for content writers in Pakistan. The wait is finally over.
Writers from Pakistan are now eligible to join Medium’s Partner Program (MPP). Using this wonderful opportunity, you can earn money through your passion for writing, showcase your unique voice to a global audience, and monetize your charismatic content.
In this blog post, I will explain the steps to register for the MPP from Pakistan, tackle the challenges of payment processing, and offer valuable tips on maximizing your earnings.
Now let’s get started!
What is the Medium Partner Program?
For writers on Medium, the MPP is a game-changer. You can get paid based on how many paying Medium users interact with your stories. Your potential earnings increase as more people clap, read, and spend time on your posts.
Pakistani content writers now have a wonderful chance to show off their skills and be compensated for them. Your revenue may increase in proportion to how engaging your content is.
Getting Started with MPP in Pakistan: A Step-by-Step Guide
Are you ready to take off on your MPP writing adventure? Here’s a breakdown of the enrollment process:
Step 1: Become a Medium Member
Make sure to register for a free account on Medium.com. However, you’ll need to pay for a membership to join the MPP and get paid for your work. Medium provides two choices:
-
Member (US$5/month):
With this basic membership, you can read as many stories as you want and help the authors you like.
-
Friend (US$15/month):
With this premium membership, you can read writers’ work and receive four times the subscription price that would otherwise go to them, allowing you to directly support them in addition to receiving all the benefits of a member subscription.
Step 2: Enroll in the Partner Program
Once your membership has been verified, go to your profile settings and search for the “Partner Program” option.
Apply by following the instructions.
During enrollment, ensure you meet the eligibility criteria:
- You need to have published a story within the last 6 months.
- Be a paying Medium member. This means either subscribing to $5 package or being a Friend of Medium
- You should reside in a country supported by the program (which now includes Pakistan!).
Step 3: Set Up Your Payouts (Stripe Express)
For Pakistani writers, this was where things used to get complicated. Before this, Pakistan was not supported by Stripe, the payment processor that Medium uses.
But stop worrying now!
You can now connect Stripe Express directly to your bank account in Pakistan. This simplified procedure makes it easy for you to get the money you make.
Step 4: Complete Taxpayer Information (W-8BEN Form)
Although completing this form could appear challenging, it’s a simple procedure. As a non-resident of the US, you will select W-8BEN for a single account. Your name, address, and tax identification number (TIN) are among the essential information requested on the form.
Pakistani writers might not have a zero withholding rate, even when a US TIN permits one. If so, just omit the section on treaty benefits, and your country’s withholding tax will be applied. More details are available in Medium’s help centre.
Congratulations! You’re Now A Part of the Medium PP!
After you’ve finished these procedures, you’ll see your Partner Program dashboard again, along with your membership start date and the thrilling prospect of getting paid for your work.
Continue creating brilliant content, and as people relate to your story, your income will increase. Keep in mind that Stripe will safely transfer your money straight to your bank account in Pakistan.
Bonus Tip:
Use Medium’s integrated analytics to determine what kinds of content are most successful and modify your writing approach appropriately.
Examine metrics related to reader engagement, such as completion rates, claps, and reads, to determine what is effective and areas for improvement.
